The Gift of God

The Gift of God

He was born
healthy
against all odds.

His parents
weren't even given
a comfortable place
to sleep.
Although his mother
was observably pregnant.

He was born in a stable,
a barn,
meant as a shelter
for the cold,
for animals.

He was born
on a cold winter's night
when people stay in their houses
to keep warm.
When people eat
and sing songs together
and keep the strangers out.

But this night
complete strangers
heard of his birth,
and they left
the only warm place they had,
because they were rejected
by society itself,
and they hurried
and searched to find
this little child.

When they arrived
at this humble stable,
they were blessed
with the sight
of life
in all it's purity and serenity.

They were welcomed
to share the happiness
of the parents.
Complete strangers they were
with open hearts
and love to share.

This baby
was the centre of the world
of all these people.

And when he opened his eyes
they all were silent
as they felt
they were touched
by the true meaning
of God.

No matter what the circumstances are,
no matter what surroundings,
the true meaning of life,
of being,
lies in the hearts
of the people,
in their souls.

In the way they strive
to find their way
through darkness and cold
to find peace at heart.

A gift of God
this little baby was,
a gift of God
to change the world.
